Art: China and Contemporary Art

From AP:  “A vendor sells ice cream in front of carved traditional figures at the Dashanzi art district in Beijing Wednesday May 3, 2006. The three-week annual Dashanzi International Art Festival is being held in the district, which features galleries housed in a un-used former 1950s electronics factory. (AP Photo/Greg Baker).”

Regine reports that certain politically controversial works were removed from the show, while other works shocking to all other senses remained.  The censors could stomach the nudity, gore and violence but not the painting of the tank in Tiananmen Square.  I guess I am not surprised.
