Bldg: Tiny dwellings, but modern

Bldg: Saustall to Schaustall; Restoration and Transformation

fnp

fnp2

The clever architects at FNP Architekten (Pfalz, Germany) were able to restore and transform a once 18th century pigsty into a modern, though still rustic, showroom.   The crumbling structure had been damaged in the Second World War and thought to be a poor candidate for reburbishment.

FNP thought outside the proverbial and literal box by placing a structure within the structure, essentially placing a house within.  The interior structure mimcs the shape and structure, including doors and windows,  which have a modern gallery feel of clean lines and geometric style.

The interior house was depoisited within the ruin without ever touching it for fear of further damaging the old farm building.   A new roof now protects the ruins.

For this trickery they have won the coveted international AR-Award.

It really is an awful thing, but not an uncommon site in the developing world.  Although Brazil is in some ways one of the richer countries of the world in terms of natural resources and accumulated wealth, a large segment of its population lives in abject poverty.
